The Big Walk for Refugees – 13 Feb to 26 March 2024

The Big Walk 4 Refugees (13 Feb-26 Mar) is a 16,650 km virtual journey that connects people all around Australia in a collective walk from Hobart to Canberra in a show of support for 10,000 refugees who continue to face prolonged uncertainty in Australia.

Mums, Dads, and kids are being urged to put on their runners and get moving – walking, running, swimming, cycling, even dancing – to send a message that 10,000 children, women and men living in our communities should be able to finally call Australia home.

The BigWalk is using a commercial app ‘Big Team Challenge’ and you can register via the website or there’s a QR code to download the app.

🏃‍♂️🏊‍♀️🚴‍♂️👩‍🦽🚣 How can you participate? Walk, run, cycle, swim, dance, row, or even skip! Just sign up, join in Team ACT, and sync your activity with the Big Walk app.

The steps that central Victorians take on the Domino Trail, Gold Rail Trail and Lerderberg State Forest over the next six weeks will help to propel the nation-wide virtual walk to its endpoint of Parliament House on Tuesday 26 March.

Your efforts will power our virtual walk to Canberra. You can create your own team with family, friends, or colleagues, or join one of our pre-set teams for each state and territory.

Join Canberra Team! A number of teams have already been created, including a Team ACT.

The Big Walk 4 Refugees was inspired by last year’s courageous journeys by asylum seekers who walked and cycled thousands of kilometres throughout Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and the ACT to raise awareness of the devastating impact of visa uncertainty.

The first walk kicks off on Sunday 18 February, leaving Trentham Railway Station at 9am for a 5km loop walk on the Domino trail.

Please register and start logging your activity. Join us in Team ACT!
