Join groups and individuals from around Canberra for a mass protest meeting on June 28 to vote on a motion which will then be presented to Parliament.
Speakers include:
Julian Burnside AO, QC.
Prof. William Maley (AM)
Senator Sarah Hanson-Young
The motion will call for an end to the mandatory and indefinite detention of asylum seekers who have broken no law and for the closing down of the detention centres at Manus Island and Nauru. It will argue for a just alternative which treats asylum seekers humanely and honours Australia’s international obligations. Come and lend your voice to the growing wave of dissatisfaction at the Australian government’s brutal treatment of refugees.
After the meeting the Refugee Action Committee is hosting Rock Through the Wire, a music event at the ANU Bar. Proceeds from this event will go to the campaign to support changing Australia’s policy on refugees. More details to follow.
