Letter Writing – PNG, COVID, crisis in Afghanistan
There are so many issues in relation to justice for refugees that need addressing, nearly all of them urgent. Maintaining a stream of letters to politicians is one effective way of keeping up the pressure on the government to act in a more responsible, humane way.
Attached are:
- the letter writing kit for November on the topic of the Morrison Government’s termination of its agreement with PNG for offshore immigration processing, and the resulting abandonment of the 124 detainees who remain in PNG;
- the previous letter writing kit for the Urgent Action on the COVID outbreak at the Park Hotel in Melbourne. If you have not already written letters about that, please do! The men who are held there are being subject to unsafe and cruel conditions. They are frightened and desperate, and need all the help they can get from us.
- the latest update from the Australian Refugee Advocacy Network (ARAN). This ARAN newsletter largely focuses on the response to the crisis in Afghanistan, with links to the many community campaigns and actions you can take. Please take a look. It is full of useful resources.
