2014 has been a huge year for RAC, with both the size and number of events far exceeding previous years. The changes adopted at the planning meeting last year have resulted in a large number of new activists being drawn into the campaign, allowing us to reach ever wider audiences. The large mobilisations held this year is evidence of the success of these changes, with 2,000 people attending the Palm Sunday rally in April, 1,300 at the “Protest Meeting” in June, and 1,500 at October’s “Walk for Justice”. On a per capita basis April’s demonstration was the largest around the country and October’s the largest on an absolute basis.
As a new year approaches it is again time for RAC activists to get together to look back at the year and discuss ways to improve the campaign in the future. In preparation for the planning day the Steering Committee has prepared a document containing an analysis of our current situation and a number of recommendations. You can find the document here.
At 12:30pm there will be a BBQ and a chance to get to know other activists. The planning meeting will then start at 1:30pm and go to 4:30pm, followed by drinks.
Agenda:
- The political situation and why what we do matters
- RAC’s structure and our activism
- Important constituencies and priorities for 2015
- Motions
- Elections
