Canberra RAC condemns Labor leader Bill Shorten’s stand supporting turn-backs of asylum seeker boats ahead of the Australian Labor Party’s National Conference in Melbourne this weekend. Mr Shorten has preempted a debate at the Conference by declaring his controversial position beforehand for perceived political advantage.
The perpetual ‘race to the bottom’ on refugee policy by Labor and the Coalition has seen Australia inflict unfathomable levels of abuse on some of the world’s most desperate people, and has caused deep shame among many Labor members who want to see their party abide by the principles it supposedly stands for.
Join us at 12pm this Saturday for a snap rally in Garema Place to tell Labor it must stop mimicking Coalition refugee policies and instead take a stand for human rights. There IS an alternative to cruelty. You can read RAC’s rational and humane alternative policy here: http://refugeeaction.org/
