Inspired by the 10-hour reading vigil outside the Australian embassy in London, this week all around Australia people are holding read-ins of the Nauru Files. Here in Canberra, this will be held on Friday outside the Immigration Department in Braddon. The vigil will go all day from 8am to 6pm. We are asking all supporters to be involved – if you have a spare hour on Friday, please join the read in. Let us know if you can get part of this event by simply replying to this email. All are welcome to simply show up on the day as well, so make sure you invite your friends on facebook.Since the Nauru Files were leaked over a month ago, the only response from the government has been obfuscation and vilification of journalists.Despite public outcry, national protest, and international coverage of the abuse detailed in the thousands of reports, refugees are still being held in the detention centres on Manus Island and Nauru. The abuse continues.

We are determined that the Nauru Files will not simply be ignored. Members of the public, activists, and prominent Canberrans will join together to publicly read out extracts from the Nauru Files. In narrating the truth from within our detention centres, we continue to put pressure on the government. Manus Island and Nauru detention centres must be closed.
