Agenda:
1. Political Overview. What’s happened since our last meeting, the re-emergence of refugees as an election issue, and the situation in Europe.
2. Pledge for Refugees. An update on the Pledge campaign.
3. The Drownings Argument. An overview of the Government’s most common justification for offshore detention, and some talking points for how best to respond.
4. Events. An update on recent RAC events, and changes to upcoming events due to lack of speakers.
5. Steering Committee Elections. If you’d like to nominate yourself, you can do so at the meeting – but if possible please let us know beforehand by replying to this email.
The steering committee meets weekly to implement the decisions made at the general meetings. It coordinates activity between the many working groups, provides proposals for the future direction of the campaign, and when necessary calls snap actions in response to political developments. Elections for the steering committee are held every six months. The current members are listed here.
The general meetings are an important opportunity for us to discuss ideas and make decisions on the future direction of the campaign. If you’d like to be involved in shaping the campaign over the next few months, particularly in relation to how we intervene in the election, we urge you to please come along. Some food and drinks will be provided after the meeting.
You can find the Facebook event page here.
