Letter Writing – Reset Australia’s Refugee Policy

This month’s topic for letters is a call to the Government for a re-set of Australia’s refugee policy to one of fairness and compassion. Its huge majority in the House of Representatives and a weakened Opposition give the Albanese Government the opportunity to fundamentally shift refugee policy from its current harsh punitive approach to a more humanitarian one – in line with the Prime Minister’s appeal to us all for a kinder Australia, “to show kindness to those in adversity” .. and that “no one should be left behind”.
We are asking you to write now to all newly elected or re-elected Labor MPs, Senators, the PM and the Home Affairs Minister, calling on them to use their mandate to return Australia’s treatment of refugees and people seeking asylum to a fair, humane system of which we can be proud.
Please see attached letter writing kit for background information, a sample letter and additional addresses. Please remember to re-write the letter in your own words on the issues which are most important to you.
